BILLINGS, Mont. Oct. 24, 2022- Rocky Mountain College Golf took home the Grob and Spalding Cup after defeating MSUB on Saturday.

The Grob/Spalding Cup was played over three days, each day being held at a different golf course and with a different scoring system.

Day one was played at Lake Hills Golf Club and was played in a best ball format, where each golfer played their own individual holes, then a pairing would take the best score between the two players to count as their team score. Rocky women swept day one, winning all four pairings and earning four points towards the cup total. Rocky men took three out of five points, as Daniel Sigurjonsson and Jake Johnson won their pairing, along with Aidan McDonagh and Nolan Burzminski, as Tristan Hanson and Tanner Hanson along with Blake Vandenacre and Leon Doedtmann halved their pairings.

Day two was held at Yegen Golf Club and was played in an alternate shot format, where each partner in a pairing would play with one ball and alternate shots. Rocky women earned three out of four possible points on the day to increase their lead to 7-1 over MSUB. Rocky men had another three point day, increasing their lead to 6-4 entering the final day of play.

Day three was held at Hilands Golf Club and was played as a singles match. Rocky women won five out of their eight matches, as Claire Wright, Kadence Fischer, Grace Metcalf, Valentina Zuleta, and Ella Torsleff each won their match to propel the Rocky women to a Spalding Cup victory with a final point total of 12-4. The men's match came down to the final hole, when Nolan Burzminski won four of his last six holes to grab the winning point for the Battlin' Bears. Along with Burzminski, Haydn Driver, Daniel Sigurjonsson, Aidan McDonagh, and Oliver Walker all won their matches to give Rocky the victory. Four out of five seniors for the Battlin' Bears won their singles match, including senior Oliver Walker, who will graduate in December and won his final collegiate match.

The Rocky men will compete in the NAIA National Fall Preview held in Mesa, Arizona next weekend, while the Rocky women have completed their fall season and will be back in action starting in March to begin their spring season.
