Jeannie McGonagle came to Rocky Mountain College in 2002 to play soccer for the Battlin’ Bears from Buncrana, Ireland. McGonagle is a 2006 graduate of Rocky and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in writing.

On the soccer pitch, the versatile, left-footed, 5-foot-11-inch central defender earned the program’s first All-American award in 2005.

During the 2002 season, McGonagle scored the winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Lethbridge University on Wendy’s Field, giving Rocky’s current head coach, Richard Duffy, his first collegiate win.

In 2005, during her senior season, McGonagle helped lead the Battlin’ Bears to their first winning season since the program’s inception with a 10-6-1 record. During her Rocky career, McGonagle amassed 77 career points, scoring 28 goals and assisting 21 times.

“Jeannie was the first kind of player to play in the program that helped develop the winning tradition we experience now,” said Duffy. “Jeannie brought a winning attitude to a young program. She is an even better person. She brought a positive and easy-going attitude on and off the field.”

After her graduation from Rocky, McGonagle furthered her education by earning a criminology degree from Liverpool Hope University in England. After relocating to Perth, Australia in 2014, she earned a degree in leadership and management as well as an advanced diploma in business.

McGonagle continues to reside in Perth, where she operates her own business.
