SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Rocky Mountain College women's soccer team dominated the action, but needed a late goal to claim a 1-0 win at Northwest Christian on Saturday night.
Â
Rocky (9-3, 5-2 CCC) had several chances before
Sami Heimer broke through in the 86th minute. Heimer got her head on a corner kick played in by
Lauryn Gamache on the team's 22nd shot of the game.
Â
The Battlin' Bears put 10 of those 22 shots on goal with the first nine being stopped by the Northwest Christian (1-10, 1-8 CCC) keeper. The late breakthrough allowed Rocky to rebound from Friday's game in which they allowed two goals in the final five minutes.
Â
After taking the lead, Rocky surrendered a corner kick that the Beacons turned into a header that went wide of target. The Battlin' Bears were then able to run out the clock without allowing another chance.
Â
Gamache led Rocky with six shots while
Amber Pearson took five shots. Both players had three shots on goal.
Â
Northwest Christian only took five shots in the game and Rocky held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
Â
Maia Wetzel made one save in securing her seventh win and third shutout of the season.
Â
The Battlin' Bears have four games remaining in the regular season with two of those at home next weekend. They welcome Warner Pacific to Wendy's Field on Friday at 3 p.m.
