HAVRE, Mont. – The No. 21 Rocky Mountain College volleyball team returned to Frontier Conference action with a 3-0 sweep at Montana State University – Northern on Friday night at Armory Gymnasium.
Rocky (18-8, 7-1 Frontier) fought through a tight first set before cruising to the 25-19, 25-10, 25-17 win. The Battlin' Bears have now won four straight Frontier matches and they swept the season series with MSU-Northern (9-13, 3-5 Frontier).
Rocky totaled 43 kills in the win behind .243 hitting. They really dominated in the second set with 18 kills and .455 hitting. The Battlin' Bears also tallied four service aces and got 55 digs and six blocks. They held the Sky Lights to just 28 kills and .113 hitting.
Olivia L'Ami led the way for Rocky with 11 kills for her 10 double-digit kill effort of the season. She hit .286 – her highest since a win over Northern on September 14 – while getting one dig and one block.
Daniella Russell followed with nine kills and three digs.
Sydney Matheny and
Tess Hellerud had eight kills apiece.
Hailey Copinga added six.
Copinga led the Battlin' Bears with 17 digs while
Holland Fergurson added 14.
Natalie Hilderman contributed 39 assists and 12 digs for her 17th double-double of the year.
Rocky now sits atop the Frontier Conference standings with a one-half game lead over Montana Tech. The Bears will be in action on Saturday afternoon at the University of Providence. First serve in Great Falls is schedule for 2 p.m.
