OLYMPIA, Wash. – The No. 6 Rocky Mountain College men's soccer team opened its final weekend of regular season play with a 1-1 draw at Evergreen State College on Friday afternoon in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
Rocky (14-1-1, 10-1-1 CCC) saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end along with its ability to win an outright CCC title without getting some help.
The Battlin' Bears put themselves in a good position when
Sam Davidson took a through ball from
Matthew Thomas and slotted to the right of the keeper for a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute.
Rocky was controlling most of the action the rest of the game, but then in the 88th minute, Evergreen State (6-4-5, 5-3-4) found the equalizer. Angel Trejo-Delgado snuck a one-touch chance into the goal to level the contest at 1-1.
The teams would battle through 20 minutes of extra time with Rocky getting the only two shots – neither on goal – and the game ended in Rocky's first tie of the season.
The Battlin' Bears had chances as they put eight of their 19 shots on goal and took seven corner kicks. They held the Geoducks to just nine shots and the home side's only shot on goal was the tying tally.
Marco Kummerle took a team-high six shots for Rocky with three on goal.
Chasen Lashure has a pair of shots on goal.
The result gives Rocky 31 points and leaves them tied with Southern Oregon for the top spot in the standings. The Battlin' Bears can earn at least a share of a third straight CCC regular season crown with a win over Northwest University in Saturday's 4 p.m. MT contest.
