Battlin’ Bears Down Providence for Sixth Straight Win

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The 10th-ranked Rocky Mountain College men's soccer team continued its recent stretch of solid play with a 3-0 win at University of Providence on Saturday afternoon in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

The win is the sixth straight for Rocky (10-1, 6-1 CCC) to tie for the second-longest winning streak in team history. The last time they won six straight was during the 2015 season. The Battlin' Bears also won nine straight games at one point that season.

On Saturday, Rocky went ahead in the 33rd minute as Luca Wiechers rebounded a chance from Marco Kummerle and put it away for his fifth goal of the season.

The Battlin' Bears were able to make it 2-0 late in the first half when Alexander Taylor gained possession on a failed clear to score his first goal of the season from inside the penalty area.

Jace Beck added the final tally for the visiting side in the 68th minute by finishing a penalty kick for his second goal of the season.

Rocky – the NAIA's leader in shots per game – attempted 23 shots on Saturday and put nine of them on goal. They got 13 of those chances off in the first half while holding Providence (5-5, 4-4 CCC) to only seven shots in the entire game.

Pablo Ferreira led the Rocky attack with five shots and Matthew Thomas added four shots. Thomas and Gregor Watson led the team with two shots on goal apiece.

Cole Catlin earned his third straight and 15th career shutout for Rocky. His only two saves of the game both came in the first 14 minutes of action. Catlin has now gone over 318 minutes without allowing a goal.

The Battlin' Bears six-game streak has pulled them into second-place in the Cascade Conference. They will put the streak on the line on Friday when they visit the Cascade leaders, Corban. That game will start at 5:30 p.m. MT in Salem, Oregon.
