BUTTE, Mont. – The Rocky Mountain College volleyball team completed play at the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge by picking up a pair of victories on Saturday. Rocky Mountain started the day with a sweep of UC Merced (Calif.) and then came back to defeat Northwest (Wash.) in four sets.
With the two wins, Rocky moves its season record to 5-3 on the season. They finished the weekend with a 3-1 record during the 17-team event.
After a slow start against UC Merced, the Battlin' Bears claimed a 25-23, 25-8, 25-17 victory on Saturday morning. Rocky hit .274 with 37 kills while holding Merced to .045 hitting. The Bears tallied nine blocks and 54 digs.
Olivia L'Ami finished the contest with a team-high 11 kills and hitting .348.
Sydney Matheny added 10 kills and five blocks.
Holland Fergurson led the team with 12 digs and
Natalie Hilderman posted 29 assists.
Rocky closed out the weekend with a 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 25-18 win over Northwest. Each team had 59 kills in the match, but Rocky hit .224 while holding Northwest to .196.
L'Ami led Rocky with 20 kills and
Daniella Russell posted 14. Four Bears had double figures in digs with Fergurson leading the team with 24.
Krista Judisch added 20 digs and Hilderman posted a double-double with 41 assists and 11 digs.
The Bears will spend next weekend in California as they play at the Menlo College Tournament in Atherton. They will face San Diego Christian (Calif.) and William Jessup (Calif.) on September 1 and then Westmont (Calif.) and Menlo (Calif.) on September 2.
