ATHERTON, Calif. – The No. 20 Rocky Mountain College men's soccer team opened a weekend road trip to northern California with a 4-1 win at 22nd-ranked Menlo College on Friday afternoon.

Rocky Mountain (2-0) got first half goals from
Matthew Thomas and
Jonah Gronmayer to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. The Battlin' Bears extended the advantage to 3-0 with the second goal of the season by
Pablo Ferreira in the 51st minute.

Mason Luse would tally the final goal of the day for Rocky with his first career goal in the 70th minute. Menlo (1-1-1) avoided the shutout with a goal from Eric Hegmann in the 88th minute.

After recording an 8-3 edge in shots during the first half, Rocky only took three shots in the final 45 minutes and were outshot by the home side, 13-11 for the game. The Bears put six of those chances on goal, Menlo had four shots on goal and finished with an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Ferreira led the Bears attack with four shot attempts. Luse and Thomas had two shots apiece. Gronmayer notched an assist on the Ferreira goal for a three-point day.

Cole Catlin earned the win in goal for Rocky with three saves.

The Bears' road trip continues on Monday when they face William Jessup (Calif.) in a neutral site game at Menlo College at 2:30 p.m. MT.
