Rocky upset by Providence in Frontier Volleyball Championship

BUTTE, Mont., November 10, 2018 – The No. 8 ranked Battlin' Bears lost to the No. 20 ranked Argos in four sets during the Frontier Volleyball Championship.

No. 1 seeded Rocky swept Lewis-Clark State in the afternoon (25-20, 25-18, 25-15) to move on to the conference championship against the No. 2 seeded Argos. Going into the championship, Rocky was undefeated against conference opponents.

Rocky pulled ahead in the first set 16-9 before watching their lead quickly disappear. Providence surged ahead and took the first set 28-26.

The two teams kept it close initially in the second set. Rocky was able to pull ahead by five, but once again it would prove not enough. Providence climbed back and won the set.

Rocky rallied in the third set, pulled ahead, and managed to keep their lead to take the third set 25-20.

Tied six to six in the final set, Providence's Kelsey Shaver scored four kills in a row to put the Argos up 10-6. The Battlin' Bears never recovered as Providence held on to that lead for the win.

Hailey Copinga ended the match with 12 kills and 28 digs. Daniella Russell contributed an additional 11 kills.

Natalie Hilderman orchestrated 37 assists.

The Argos will advance to the 2018 NAIA National Women's Volleyball tournament having earned an automatic conference bid.

Rocky Mountain College will learn of their post-season future on Nov. 12 when the NAIA reveals their championship qualifiers.
