GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Rocky Mountain College opened their 2019 season with a 76-44 loss to the University of Calgary Dinos on Friday evening.
Trailing 14-12 at the end of the first period, the Battlin' Bears kept the game close initially. The lead changed hands six times within the first quarter of play, but the Dinos led the rest of the way. Down 32-23 at halftime, the Battlin' Bears began to fall further behind as the game continued. Calgary outscored Rocky 24-9 in the third period and ran away with the 76-44 victory.
The Battlin' Bears shot 24.1 percent from the floor and landed just 3-of-21 from beyond the arc. The Dinos in comparison shot a 40.8 field goal percentage.
Calgary outrebounded Rocky 37-29. The Dinos had 11 steals to Rocky's six.
Rocky's scoring efforts were led by
Mackenzie Dethman who scored eight points. Additionally, the trio of
Markaela Francis,
Destinee Pointer, and
Grace Parker each scored six points. Francis also led the team with five boards.
Shooting 8-of-12 from the floor, the Dinos' Reyna Crawford scored a team-high 20 points. Calgary's Liene Stalidzane and Bobbi-Jo Coburn both also scored in the double digits with 13 points each. Sascha Lichtenwald pulled in 10 rebounds.
The Battlin' Bears will stay in Great Falls, Montana to play Mount Royal University tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.
