DILLON, Mont., November 2, 2019 – The Montana Western Bulldogs completed their season sweep of Rocky Mountain College with a 40-10 win Saturday afternoon.
Recording 223 yards of total offense, the Battlin' Bears' only touchdown of the game came on a late defensive turnover. Turnovers proved crucial as Rocky gave up four interceptions and two fumbles to Montana Western.
The first half belonged to the Bulldogs' Jon Jund. Jund jumped Montana Western to a four touchdown lead before halftime after connecting with Kylar Prante and Nate Simkins for two touchdowns apiece.
The Battlin' Bears finally put points on the board in the third quarter off of
Riley Garrett's seventh field goal of the season. Nevertheless, the Battlin' Bears were unable to keep Simkins from hauling in his third touchdown reception of the game late in the third quarter. JD Ferris extended the Bulldogs lead to 40-3 in the fourth.
The Battlin' Bears scored their only touchdown of the day with a little under three minutes left in the game.
Tucker Maxwell forced and recovered a fumble from Montana Western's
Sean Miller and ran it back 55 yards for the final touchdown of the game.
Rocky's
Kamden Brown was 11-of-24 through the air for 75 yards and three interceptions.
Joel McRae was 2-of-5 for 27 yards and an interception.
Sam Sparks led the ground attack with 67 yards on 14 attempts while
Lucas Overton had seven receptions for 48 yards.
Ty Reynolds pulled in an interception for the Battlin' Bears.
Jund was 15-of-30 in the air attack for 230 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception. The quarterback also recorded 53 yards on the ground. Simkins pulled in nine receptions for 124 yards and three touchdowns.
Joe Caicedo recorded a team-high 11 tackles and an interception.
The Battlin' Bears will play their last home game of the regular season against Eastern Oregon on November 9.
