BILLINGS, Mont.– Five Battlin' Bears scored in the double digits as Rocky Mountain College defeated NCCAA opponent Portland Bible College 94-57.
After building a 15-point lead at the half, Rocky opened the third period with a 14-5 run. The Wildcats never recovered as the Battlin' Bears maintained at least a 20-point lead for the rest of the game.
Hitting 6-of-8 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line,
Maxim Stephens came off the bench to lead the Battlin' Bears with a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds.
Darius Henderson scored 18 points with seven rebounds.
Sam Vining scored 17.
Brandon The Boy had 12 in addition to 10 points from
Grant Wallace.
Portland Bible was led by Moses McEwen who scored 17 points with seven rebounds. Ahmad Kempster had 13 points while Aaron Deatherage had 11.
The Battlin' Bears shot 52.5 percent from the field and drained 41.7 percent of their three point attempts. In comparison, the Wildcats shot 40.4 percent while landing 6-of-20 from deep.
"You worry about the team coming out of the break, but I thought we gave an excellent effort tonight. Happy with our guys," said head men's basketball coach
Bill Dreikosen. "We have to prepare for our upcoming game against Dickinson State. They are going to be an excellent opponent to face before we head into the Frontier games."
The Battlin' Bears will next play Dickinson State on Jan. 3 at First Interstate Arena at MetraPark.
