BILLINGS, Mont. – In their final home game of the regular season, the No. 24 ranked Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears defeated the MSU-Northern Skylights 51-36.
Both teams battled cold shooting and turnovers. Despite their struggles, the Battlin' Bears (18-10, 9-7 FC) were able to maintain a comfortable lead for a majority of the game.
A two pointer by MSU-Northern's (12-17, 4-13 FC) Peyton Kehr drew the game within single digits with 2:42 left, but two
Markaela Francis free throws pushed Rocky's lead back to 11 points. The Skylights wouldn't score again.
From the field, both teams were nearly equal. The Battlin' Bears drained just 30.4 in comparison to the Skylights' 30.6 percent. From beyond the arc, Rocky was good for just 23.8 percent while MSU-Northern sank just 12.5 percent.
Francis scored 14 points while
Justyn Juhl added an additional 11. Seniors
Brooke Jones and
Alecia Chamberlin posted eight point performances.
Both teams had 18 turnovers on the night.
Chamberlin led the team in boards with 13 as Rocky out-rebounded the visitors 41-28.
MSU-Northern was led by Sidney Hovde who scored 10 points with nine rebounds on the night.
Rocky's final road trip of the regular season will begin at Montana Tech on Feb. 22. The action will begin at 5:30 p.m.
