HELENA, Mont. – No. 20 ranked Rocky Mountain College fell 61-50 to the No. 7 ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference Playoffs.
Shooting just 29.2 percent in the first two periods, Rocky (20-12) fell behind after a 8-2 run by Carroll (24-7) to end the half. They never managed to regain the lead. The Saints stretched the deficit to double digits by the end of the third period.
Late in the fourth with the score at 53-43,
Kiana Corpus pulled in a steal and
Brooke Jones drained a three to draw the Battlin' Bears within seven. Within range, Rocky couldn't maintain the momentum. Carroll's Christine Denny quickly drained a three of her own followed by another two in the paint. The Battlin' Bears wouldn't recover.
Leading the Battlin' Bears in both categories, Francis scored 17 points with eight rebounds.
Justyn Juhl posted 13 points of her own.
The Saints out-rebounded the Battlin' Bears 31-26 on the night.
The Battlin' Bears were good for 36 percent from the field and just 5-of-16 from beyond the arc. Carroll College shot 51.9 percent while draining 33.3 percent of their threes.
A trio of Saints scored in the double digits. Danielle Wagner scored 18 points while Christine Denny contributed an additional 15. Hannah Dean scored 14 points with a team-high five rebounds.
The Frontier Conference Championship will see the Saints play the No. 4 ranked Montana Western Bulldogs on March 4 in Dillon, Mont.
Rocky's season will continue in the 2019 NAIA Division 1 Women's Basketball Championship on March 13-19 in Billings, Mont. The NAIA will reveal the bracket live on Facebook on March 6 at 4 p.m. MST.
