Ellis advances while Battlin' Bears miss cut by a single stroke at NAIA nationals

OKLAHOMA CITY –  Rocky Mountain College's women's golf team missed the second day cut at the 2019 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship by a single stroke Wednesday afternoon. Eryn Ellis, tied in 11th, will advance to the third round individually.

Posting a second round of 311, the Battlin' Bears moved up five spots to No. 18 in the leaderboard. However, their two-day total of 628 just narrowly missed the mark. The top 17 teams advanced and SCAD Atlanta sat in 17th with a total of 627. This marks the second year in a row that the Battlin' Bears missed the cut in 18th place.

The Battlin' Bears finish the tournament 52-over-par 628 with 63 pars, 10 birdies, and one eagle.

"It was great to see improvement in today's round as a team, but it wasn't quite enough this week to make the cut," said head women's golf coach Aaron Pohle. "It was a great season for this group and I'm very proud of all they have accomplished in the classroom, on the course, and in the community."

Moving from 33rd to 11th, Eryn Ellis will advance to the final two rounds individually at 3-over-par 147. Despite a double bogey on the par-4 sixth hole, she posted four birdies for an even-par second round of 72. Her two-day total stands at 24 pars and five birdies.

"Eryn played great today," said Pohle. "She let one hole slip away from her, but otherwise she had a very solid performance. She is in a great position to move up the leaderboard over the next couple days and she is excited to compete for a national championship."

Recording a round of 79, Anna DeMars ends the tourney tied for 76 with a two day total of 158. She posted nine pars and two birdies to end the tournament with 20 pars and four birdies.

Amanda Conner finished the tournament at 99 at 17-over-par 161. She shot 80 Wednesday with two birdies and eight pars.

Both Hayden Flohr and Morgan O'Neil finished with a score of 165 and tied for 116th. Flohr shot a second round of 80 with two birdies and seven pars while O'Neil shot 83 with an eagle and seven pars.

British Columbia is currently in first with a score of 590 with Keiser University trailing by three strokes in second.

Maria Zrodowska of William Woods University and Michela Tjan of Keiser sit at the top of the leaderboard at one-under-par 143.

The third round will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m CDT.
