BILLINGS, Mont. – Playing through rain and hail on Homecoming Weekend, No. 24 ranked Rocky Mountain College was unable to top No. 20 ranked University of Montana Western in a 38-7 loss.
In the Battlin' Bears' first drive,
Drew Korf connected with
Lucas Overton four different times for 53 yards. Korf ended the 77-yard drive with a 5-yard rushing touchdown midway through the first quarter. It would be the only points the Battlin' Bears would score for the rest of the game.
Montana Western tied the game late in the first quarter with a four yard rushing touchdown from Kylar Prante. In the second quarter, Jon Jund found Nate Simkins in the endzone on a 16-yard touchdown pass to put Montana Western up by seven heading into the half.
The Bulldogs posted 24 unanswered points in the third quarter. Prante scored a 31-yard rushing touchdown and Mark Kharchenko knocked in a 47-yard field goal. Down 24-7, the Battlin' Bears' comeback aspirations were dealt a crushing blow when Joe Caciendo took two fumbles back for a pair of touchdowns within a minute of each other late in the third.
Prante finished with a career-high 187 yards and two touchdowns on 29 attempts. Jund threw for 160 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions for the Bulldogs.
Rocky's
Drew Korf was 22-of-39 through the air for 193 yards and three interceptions. Korf posted 86 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Lucas Overton had 13 receptions for 122 yards.
Posting seven tackles, Rocky's
Mason Price had three sacks for a combined loss of 21 yards.
Nolan McCafferty,
Tucker Maxwell, and
Chad Nebel were among the other Battlin' Bears to record a sack. McCafferty led the team with 14 tackles while Maxwell had 13.
Shane Larson,
Ty Reynolds, and
Isaiah Schlegel each pulled in an interception.
For the Bulldogs on defense, Joe Ferris had a sack, four tackles for a loss on 16 total tackles. Caicedo had 10 tackles in addition to his two defensive touchdowns.
Rocky will next play No. 11 ranked College of Idaho at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Herb Klindt Field.
