BUTTE, Mont. – Led by a pair of 20-point performances from
Markaela Francis and
Destinee Pointer, No. 20 ranked Rocky Mountain College defeated Montana Tech 63-52.
Rocky struggled in the first half with the team shooting just 25.9 percent from the field and landing only 1-of-10 from beyond the arc giving Montana Tech a 23-19 lead at halftime.
It was in the fourth period that Rocky surged ahead. Down 48-47 with three minutes left in the game, the Battlin' Bears ended the night on a 16-4 run to claim a 63-52 victory. It counts as their fourth conference win of the season.
The Battlin' Bears finished the night shooting 37 percent including 23.8 percent from deep. The Orediggers shot a 35.8 field goal percentage and held a slight 39-37 edge in boards.
Rocky scored 21 points off 14 turnovers from Montana Tech.
Both Francis and Pointer posted a team-high 20 points. Francis also pulled in 12 rebounds for the game's only double double and her eighth of the season.
Kloie Thatcher, playing in her hometown of Butte, Mont., scored 11 points and dished out four assists.
Mesa Williams led the Orediggers with 20 points while Kaylee Zard and Dani Urick each scored nine. Tavia Rooney had four points and 14 rebounds.
The Battlin' Bears will next travel to Lewiston, Idaho to play No. 25 ranked Lewis-Clark State on Saturday.
