CHANDLER, Ariz., December 20, 2021- The Battlin' Bears were in control all game, and defeated Vanguard University 73 to 57. The Battlin' Bears women continue their hot start this season, with a record of 10-1, 2-0.
The Battlin' Bears were led by Kloie Thatcher tied for the game high, 18 points, six assists, and three steals. N' Dea Flye added 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks. Gracee Lekvold added 11 points, six rebounds, and a steal. The Battlin' Bears shot 52.3 percent from the field, 30 percent from the arc, and 64.7 percent from the line.
Vanguard University was led by Lauren Baumgartner with 18 points, four assists, and a steal. Gabriela Rosas added 14 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Melissa Akullu added 12 points, 12 rebounds, and a steal. Vanguard shot 35.3 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from the arc, and 75 percent from the line.
Rocky outrebounded Vanguard 29 to 28. Rocky had 15 points off turnovers to Vanguard's 19. Rocky had 38 points in paint to Vanguard's 24 points.
The Rocky women continue to compete in the Phoenix area to take part in the Frontier Conference Challenge. The Battlin' Bears take on Midamerica Nazarene Wednesday at 12 p.m.
