Rocky Volleyball Travels to Iowa For Grand View Tournament

BILLINGS, Mont., Oct 14, 2022- Rocky Mountain College Volleyball heads to Des Moines, Iowa to participate in the Grand View Tournament Friday and Saturday.

Recap From Last Week: The Battlin' Bears (11-11) come off a dominant weekend in conference play, defeating Montana Western in 3-1 and University of Providence 3-0 at home. Ayla Embry, Blythe Sealey, and Bella Bryan all were awarded Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Players of the Week, and Embry was named NAIA Defender of the Week for the third time in her Rocky career. 

 
Friday, October 14th @ 12:00 pm (MT) vs. #15 Bellevue University

Scouting the Bruins: Rocky will start off the tournament weekend against the #15 Bellevue Bruins (16-6). The Bruins have won 8 of their last 10 games, and are looking to continue with their recent success. The Bruins are led by senior outside hitter Sierra Athen (3.21 kills per set), sophomore middle blocker Jacki Apel (2.56 kills per set, 1.36 blocks per set), and senior setter Olivia Galas (10.86 assists per set). The Bruins are coached by Trish Siedlik in her 17th season.

Scouting the Eagles: The Battlin' Bears will take on the Judson University Eagles  (10-13) Friday evening. The Eagles are led by senior middle blocker Emmalne Davey (2.52 kills per set, .368 hitting percentage), junior defensive specialist Kenia Diaz Vega (4.14 digs per set), and senior setter Madeline Sheppard (8.11 assists per set). The Eagles are coached by Irick Garnder. 

Saturday, October 15th @11:00 A.M (MT) vs Mayville State University

Scouting the Comets: Rocky's first game on Saturday will be against the Mayville State Comets (9-13). Coming into the tournament the Comets have won 4 of their last 10 games, and are coming off of a loss to Presentation College. The Comets are led by junior Elora Passa who leads the team with 3.45 kills per set and is second on the team with 4.58 assists per set. Sophomore Natalie Hadrava leads the team with 6.12 digs per set. The Comets are coached by Lindsey Johnson in her 15th season. 

Saturday, October 15th @ 5:00 P.M (MT) vs Grand View University

Scouting the Vikings: The Battlin' Bears will finish their tournament weekend against the Grand View Vikings (8-14). The Vikings are led by junior libero Chevy Wagner-Chun (5.03 digs per set), sophomore middle blocker Sydney Beasley (2.71 kills per set, 0.79 blocks per set), and junior setter Alesha Johnson (7.27 assists per set). Grand View is coached by Devon Wells in her 10th season with the program.
