Rocky Volleyball Takes a Convincing Three Set Victory Over Indiana Wesleyan

MARION, Ind. Nov. 19, 2022- Rocky Mountain College Volleyball came to Indiana ready to go in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, as they defeated No. 19 ranked Indiana Wesleyan in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-17).

A back and forth start found Indiana Wesleyan with a 12-14 lead in the first set, but the Battlin' Bears would take 10 of the next 11 points and would never surrender a set lead to the Wildcats for the rest of the match, leading all the way through both the second and third sets. 

Makenna Bushman would lead the way with 12 kills for the Battlin' Bears, while Kyra Oakland finished with eight. Oakland also led the match with five total blocks. Ayla Embry ended with 24 digs and Blythe Sealey ended with 29 assists and nine digs. Hayley Bretz and Madeline Gilder each had two service aces, while the Battlin' Bears offense finished the match with a .261 hitting percentage. 

"I'm really proud of what this team has done." Coach Yang Yang said. "It was an amazing match and everyone played very well. We are excited to see what we can do at the national final site."

Victoria Johnson led Indiana Wesleyan with 11 kills, Abbigail Porter finished with 21 assists, and Ally Barkhaus ended with 20 digs. 

The Battlin' Bears will move on to Pool Play in the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Tournament, which will be held in Sioux City, Iowa starting Wednesday, November 30th. Rocky's next matchup will be announced after the conclusion of the Opening Round matchups on Saturday.
