SIOUX CITY, Iowa, March 19, 2022- The Battlin' Bears defended well in the 2022 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship Round of 8. Rocky and Thomas More University had back and forth battle, with multiple lead changes in the last minute. Thomas More took the lead with 33 seconds left to win 60-58. The Battlin' Bears end a historic season 29-5, 12-3 on the year.
Rocky was led on offense by N' Dea Flye, who had a game high 19 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Flye recorded her seventeenth double double of the season.
Kloie Thatcher and
Shauna Bribiescas both added 10 points apiece. The Battlin' Bears shot 37.5 percent from the field, 11.1 percent from the arc, and 66.7 percent from the line.
Thomas More University (30-4, 19-2) was led by Alexah Chrisman, who scored 12 points, nine rebounds, one assist, and one block. Summer Secrist added 11 points and seven rebounds. The Saints shot 43.4 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from deep, and 38.9 percent from the stripe.
Rocky had 11 points off turnovers to the Saints' three points. Rocky had one more rebound.
The Battlin' Bears end a historic season, where they won their first three wins in the NAIA Tournament. The Rocky women set a school record for wins with 29, and a host of other records were broken.
