Recap From Last Week: The Battlin' Bears (5-8) wrapped up a challenging preseason travel schedule by playing in the Viterbo Tournament in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Battlin' Bears went 1-3 in the tournament, beating Dakota State University in their first match of the weekend. The Battlin' Bears fell to two more top-25 opponents Taylor University and Viterbo University.

Thursday, September 15th @ 7:00 pm vs. Carroll College

Scouting the Saints: Rocky will play in the second match of the tournament Thursday evening against the Carroll College Fighting Saints (6-6). Carroll is led by junior defensive specialist Julia Carr, who was named NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week in the first week of the 2022 season. The Fighting Saints are also led by 2021 Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year middle hitter Elizabeth Heuiser, as well as Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week, senior outside hitter Katherine McEuen. Carroll College was previously ranked #20 in the nation in the first Top-25 Poll of the season after defeating #17  Ottawa (Ariz.) and (RV) Embry-Riddle to begin the season. A tough weekend in the Premier Labor Day Classic in Nebraska in which they dropped all four of their matches, subsequently saw them fall just outside of the Top-25 in yesterday's Coaches' Poll. On top of Carroll's victory over #17 Ottawa (Ariz.), Carroll also has a victory over #19 Vanguard (Calif.). (Note: Vanguard (Calif.) was ranked outside the Top-25 at the time of their matchup, but is now ranked #19). Carroll is led by head coach Maureen Boyle in her 17th season.

2021 Recap: The Fighting Saints finished 3rd in the Frontier Conference in 2021, going 5-5 in conference play and making it to the Frontier Tournament Finals, losing to University of Providence.

Friday, September 16th @ 5:00 pm vs. University of Providence

Scouting the Argos: The Battlin' Bears will take on University of Providence (5-9) in the final match of Friday's slate. The Argos are led by 2021 All-American Honorable Mention, junior outside hitter Jenna Thorne. Providence is getting valuable production this season from freshman setter Bella Thompson, as well as sophomore libero Taylor Christensen. The Argos began the season ranked #10 in the country, but have struggled out of the gates to open up the 2022 season. Providence has picked up momentum since their slow start, winning 3 out of 4 matches in the Frontier Conference/North Star Crossover Tournament last weekend. The Argos are led by reigning Frontier Conference Coach of the Year, head coach Arunas Duda in his 19th season.

2021 Recap: Providence had a perfect 2021 season in the Frontier Conference, going 10-0 in conference play and winning the Frontier Conference regular season and tournament championship.

Saturday, September 17th @ 1:00 pm vs. Montana Western

Scouting the Bulldogs: Rocky plays their first of two matches on Saturday against Montana Western (5-7). The Bulldogs are led by reigning Frontier Conference Defender of the Week sophomore middle blocker Peyton Vogl, along with reigning Frontier Conference Setter of the Week sophomore setter Kaylee Fritz. Western had a slow start to this season, losing their first seven matches of the season. Momentum has picked up for the Bulldogs however, as they come into the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament winning their last five straight matches, including going 4-0 in the Frontier Conference/North Star Crossover Tournament. Montana Western is coached by Head Coach Katie Lovett in her 10th season.

2021 Recap: Western looks to build on a 2021 season that saw the Bulldogs go 1-9 in conference play.

Saturday, September 17th @ 5:00 pm vs. #20 Montana Tech

Scouting the Orediggers: The Battlin' Bears will finish their weekend against another Top-25 opponent as they take on #20 Montana Tech (9-5). The Orediggers are led by 2021 All-America Honorable Mention, three time All-Conference, and reigning Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week senior outside hitter Maureen Jessop. Tech is also led by senior setter Mckenna Kaelber, senior outside hitter Olivia Muir, and senior middle blocker Taylor Henley, all who received all-conference honors in 2021. Tech went 4-0 in the Frontier Conference/North Star Crossover Tournament last weekend, and have won their last five matches straight. The Orediggers are led by head coach Brian Soloman in his 11th season.

2021 Recap: Montana Tech finished the 2021 season 7-3 in conference. Tech's season accomplishments included an NAIA National Tournament Opening Round Victory at home versus Bushnell University.
