Rocky Soccer Hosts Northwest University and Evergreen State College To Continue Conference Play

BILLINGS, Mont. Sept. 22, 2022- Rocky Mountain College Soccer will host Northwest University on Friday and Evergreen State College on Saturday. Both women's games will start at 1:00 P.M and both men's games will begin at 3:30 P.M. All matches will be played on Wendy's Field. 

Recap from Last Week: Rocky women (2-2-2, 0-0-1 conf.) began conference play with a slow start, ending in a 0-0 draw against University of Providence in a game where both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm. Rocky men (3-1-1, 1-0 conf) began conference play on a high note, defeating University of Providence 4-1 behind a goal and an assist from Igor Soares, who has totaled five goals so far this season.

Scouting the Eagles: The Northwest University Eagles (5-0-2, 1-0-1 conf.) have had a strong start to the season so far. The Eagles are led by graduate midfielder Elizabeth Moretti (3 goals, 2 assists, 2 game-winning goals) and junior Gracie Vanassche (2 goals, 2 assists). Northwest has also gotten a tremendous showing from freshman goalie Hanne Breur, who has only allowed one goal in seven games, tallying 24 saves along the way. The Eagles faced off against University of Jamestown and tied 1-1, an opponent the Battlin' Bears defeated 1-0. The Eagles are coached by Bryan Chud, the program's all-time leader in coaching wins. 

The Northwest men (3-3-1, 1-1 conf.) split their two conference matches last weekend against Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech. The Eagles are led by senior forward Tyler Hopp (3 goals, 3 game-winning goals) and junior Jacen Stein (1 goal, 1 assist). Senior goalkeeper Alexander Thiehofe has recorded 17 saves on .739 save percentage this season to anchor the Eagles' defense. Northwest men are led by Dr. Gary McIntosh, who enters his 20th season as the men's soccer coach and the all-time program leader in coaching wins.

Scouting the Geoducks: Evergreen State College women (0-4-1, 0-2 conf.) will look to get back on the right track as they come to Montana for two conference matches. The Geoducks are led by sophomore forward Brie Dell (4 goals, 1 assist) and sophomore goalkeeper Amity Brookshire (27 saves, .730 save percentage). Evergreen is coached by Steve Schmidt in his first official season as the Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach. 

Evergreen State College men (2-3, 1-1 conf.) split their opening weekend of conference play last weekend. The Geoducks are led by freshman forward Zach Schmidt (2 goals) and senior goalkeeper Colin Hauser (41 saves, .872 save percentage). 

History: Since 2013, the Battlin' Bears women are 6-1 against the Geoducks. Rocky won the previous matchup 3-1 last season.
