Rocky Volleyball Hosts MSU-Northern Friday Evening to Begin Frontier Conference Play

BILLINGS, Mont., Sept. 23, 2022- Rocky Mountain College Volleyball hosts MSU-Northern in the first conference match of the season Friday night at 7:00 pm. 
 
Recap From Last Week: The Battlin' Bears (7-10) went 2-2 during the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament presented by Erck Hotels. Rocky fell in a competitive five set match to Carroll College to start the weekend, then rattled off two victories in a row against University of Providence and Montana Western. Rocky was the only team in the tournament to defeat Montana Western, putting an end to the Bulldogs 8 game winning streak. Rocky finished the weekend by falling to No. 20 Montana Tech in 3 sets. 

Ayla Embry earned her third Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Defender of the Week award of the 2022 season as she surpassed 2,500 digs last weekend. Embry is currently second in the nation in digs (422) and digs per set (6.70). 

Scouting the Lights: MSU-Northern (8-5) was the only participating team in the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament that Rocky did not match up against last weekend. The Lights struggled in last weekend's tournament, going 0-4 and only winning two sets on the weekend after an 8-1 start to the season. 

MSU-Northern has been led by junior Alana Graves (2.7 kills/set), sophomore Emily Feller (5.90 assists/set), and senior Kaitlin Murdock (4.93 digs/set). MSU-Northern is coached by Jerry Wagner in his fourth season as the head coach of the Lights. 

History: Since 2016, the Battlin' Bears are 13-2 versus MSU-Northern. Rocky defeated the Lights 3-1 in their most previous matchup last season.
