Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brandon Stinson | Sports Information & Media Coordinator

Rocky Men’s Basketball Falls to University of Providence 80-67

The Battlin' Bears drop their third consecutive conference matchup to fall to a 2-4 conference record this season.

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears took a seven point lead into halftime, but were outscored by 20 points in the second half and fell to the Argos 80-67.

After a string of slow starts, the Battlin' Bears came ready to go in Great Falls, shooting 41% from the field, hitting six threes, and scoring 41 points in the first half to go up by seven into the break.

The Argos came alive out of the gates in the second half however, going on a 23-6 run to open things up and take a 10 point lead with 11:28 remaining in the game.

Beau Santistevan would hit a three pointer, Cade Tyson would knock down a pair of free throws, and Kael Robinson got a layup to drop for a 7-0 run to get the Battlin' Bears back into the ball game as they trailed by three with 9:05 remaining in the game.

From then on, the Argos were able to match any Rocky basket to belittle any further momentum. Marcus Stephens took the game over, scoring 10 of his game-high 24 points in the final nine minutes of the game, as the Argos secured their second straight Frontier Conference victory and improved to a 4-2 conference record.

"I'm proud of our guys' effort tonight." Coach Bill Dreikosen said. "We came out and played hard and together. The final score didn't turn out how we wanted, but our guys never gave up. If we make our free throws and some easy shots in the second half, we could have easily come away with the win."

The Rocky men struggled from the free throw line in the game, shooting only 57% (11-19) from the charity stripe.

The Battlin' Bears were led by 16 points and four rebounds from Beau Santistevan off the bench, 13 points, eight rebounds, and three steals by Elliott Brooks, and nine points, nine rebounds, and five assists from Kael Robinson

The Argos were led by 24 points, seven rebounds, and four steals from Marcus Stephens, while Davien Harris-Williams added 18 points and five rebounds.

The Battlin' Bears (10-8, 2-4 conf.) host No. 12 Montana Tech and MSU-Northern at home next weekend in the Fortin Education Center.
