Rocky Volleyball Splits First Day Matchups in the Labor Day Classic

SIOUX CITY, Iowa.- The Battlin' Bears split their matchups against #2 Concordia University and Dordt University on Friday. 

The first match of the day didn't go the Battlin' Bears way, as they fell in three straight sets to #2 Concordia University. The Bulldogs controlled the game throughout, hitting at a .323 percentage and totaled 52 kills in the victory. 

Makenna Bushman led the Battlin' Bears with 14 kills, while Bella Bryan finished with nine kills on a .409 hitting percentage. Blythe Sealey also tallied 32 assists in the defeat. 

The second match of the day began with more frustration from the Battlin' Bears, as Dordt quickly jumped out to a first set victory, 25-17. Rocky found their rhythm from then on, however, as Rocky stormed back to win three consecutive sets, 25-23, 25-13, 25-23. 

Makenna Bushman continued her hot start to the 2023 season, with her fifth consecutive match with double digit kills as she spiked a new career high 20 kills in the victory. Blythe Sealey added a season high 46 assists, along with 15 digs and six kills, both of which tie season highs. Brooke Ark finished the second match with a new career high 36 digs. 

The Battlin' Bears (6-4) will take on #9 Midland University and Indiana University East on Saturday morning.
