Rocky Men’s Soccer Opens Conference Play With a 2-1 Victory over University of Providence

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears closed the first half and opened the second half with goals to take a 2-1 victory over the Argos at home on Friday afternoon. 

Providence was the first to strike, as the Argo's Jose Vasquez knocked a header in from a deep crossing pass from Goevanni Lugo in the 28th minute to give them a 1-0 lead. 

Just before half, Lorenzo Klamler lofted a corner kick to the front of the pack within the box, where he found Maddox Gallia for a header to knot things back up at one a piece going into the break. The Argos outshot Rocky 12-7 in the first half as they controlled possession early. 

Rocky would score the deciding goal just six minutes into the second half, as Tor Swann dribbled through Argo defenders before finding his teammate Igor Soares in the center of the box who placed his shot into the back of the net to give Rocky the 2-1 lead they would hold through the final whistle. 

Tor Swann, Igor Soares, Maddox Gallia, and Angel Mange all finished with three shots. Gallia put all three of his shots on goal on top of his game tying goal. Stefan Schenk finished with five saves in the afternoon. 

The Battlin' Bears (3-0-2, 1-0 conf.) will host Carroll College on Sunday afternoon on Wendy's Field at 1:00pm.
