Rocky Men’s Soccer Draws 3-3 With Webber International University

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Three total penalty kick goals, including one by each team in the final ten minutes, led to a 3-3 draw between Rocky Mountain College and Webber International University on Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors were the first to score, as Ruben Marquez was given the first penalty kick opportunity and shot it past keeper Stefan Schenk. Angel Mange evened up the score before the end of the half, rifling a shot into the back corner of the goal in the 42nd minute to tie the match going into the halftime break. Both teams were pretty evenly matched in the first half, with the Battlin' Bears narrowly outshooting the Warriors 4 to 3.

In the 66th minute, Angel Mange fired a shot that was deflected by goalkeeper Ben Parkinson, but deflected directly into the possession of Igor Soares, who turned around and gave Rocky a 2-1 lead on his second goal of the weekend and of the season so far. Just three minutes later, Webber's Gudmundur Boasson broke free and was able to get a one on one with Schenk, leading to a Warriors goal, tying the ball game at 2-2.

Late in the second half, Webber's Sebastion Lago secured a penalty kick opportunity after a Rocky hand-ball amongst a Warrior attack, giving the Warriors a 3-2 lead late in the 82nd minute.

Just six minutes later, Ben Ohl placed a corner kick into the middle of the box, when Webber fouled Rocky's Ethan Hayes, leading Igor Soares to the box to secure his third career penalty kick goal, bringing the final score to a 3-3 draw.

The Battlin' Bears narrowly outshot the Warriors in the tie, 11-10 overall, with nine of Rocky's shots being on goal compared to only six of the Warriors' shots being on goal.

The Battlin' Bears (1-0-2) will host University of Jamestown on Saturday, September 9th in their final non-conference matchup before conference play begins on September 15th against University of Providence.
