Rocky Volleyball Falls in Five-Sets to (RV) Carroll College

HELENA, Mont.—The Battlin' Bears flexed strong victories in the second and third sets but could not close out the Fighting Saints in Helena.

How it Happened

The Carroll backline defended the Battlin' Bear attack well in the first set, as Rocky was held to a team hitting percentage of just .100 to start as the Fighting Saints took the first set 25-18.

The Battlin' Bears seized momentum through the next two sets, totaling just four attack errors in each of the second and third sets while combining for a team hitting percentage over .230 as they cruised to back-to-back set victories.

Both teams came to play in set four, as neither team held a lead larger than four. Blythe Sealey tallied a kill to give the Battlin' Bears a 21-20 lead before Carroll College would string together three consecutive kills to swipe the lead back. While a kill from Makenna Bushman cut the deficit to one, Carroll's Elizabeth Heuiser sealed the fourth set with a kill and forced a fifth set.

Rocky was the first to take the lead in the first set, as a combined block from Bella Bryan and Kaitlyn Wood gave the Battlin' Bears a 5-2 lead. The Fighting Saints would ultimately make the match-sealing run shortly after, as a 7-2 run would bring Carroll within match point with a 14-10 lead. While the Battlin' Bears tallied three consecutive points to go within two, Carroll would make the match-sealing kill in Helena.

Notable Statistics

Makenna Bushman led the way with a game-high 21 kills and two service aces. Gabriella Panzetta totaled nine kills and six blocks, Blythe Sealey totaled 49 assists, and Kaitlyn Wood added nine kills and four blocks. Lindsay Lawrence totaled a career-high 24 digs in the loss.

Lauren Heiser totaled 15 kills, Elizabeth Heuiser tallied 14 kills, and Hannah Schweikert finished with 64 assists in the victory.
