Rocky Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short Against No.6-Ranked Arizona Christian 90-81

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky Men's Basketball ended up on the losing end of a back-and-forth matchup against the sixth-ranked Firestorm on Saturday evening. 

How it Happened
The first half was an offensive eruption, with both teams nearing 50% shooting from the field. After Colton Spencer hit a jumper with two minutes to go for his 13th point of the half to give Rocky a four-point lead, Arizona Christian finished the half on a 6-0 run, capped by a layup by Trent Hudgens to give the Firestorm a slim 48-46 lead at halftime. 

Both teams traded points for the first ten minutes of the half, as Jesse Owens put a layup in to cut Rocky's deficit to three, 64-61. 

The six-minute stretch following the ten-minute mark in the game proved to be the difference, as Rocky's offense went cold, shooting just 1-13 from the field as Arizona Christian leaped ahead with a 19-4 run to take a double-digit lead. While the Battlin' Bears finished the game on a 12-2 run, holding the Firestorm without a point until the final two seconds, it was too little too late, as the No. 6-ranked Firestorm handed the Battlin' Bears their first loss of the season. 

Notable Statistics
The Battlin' Bears finished the game shooting 39.7% from the field and 28.6% (8-28) from three. Rocky made up the difference in their shooting percentages with 18 offensive rebounds on the night, which led to 16 second-chance points and 16 more shot attempts than the Firestorm. Carter McCoy grabbed six offensive rebounds and 13 total rebounds, while Jaylon Lee added five offensive boards and eight total rebounds. 

Colton Spencer was Rocky's leading scorer, finishing with 19 points. Jesse Owens ended the night with an efficient 17 points, shooting 7-11 from the field while adding four assists and three steals. Royce Robinson added 13 points and three rebounds. 

Arizona Christian shot 53.2% from the field overall and 53.3% (8-15) from three-point range. The Firestorm had four players in double figures, led by Anthony Howell's 19 points and eight rebounds.
