Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls in the Semifinals to Carroll College 65-50

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- The Rocky women's tournament run came to a close on Friday after a 65-50 loss to the top-seeded Fighting Saints.

Defensive effort defined the first half, as the Battlin' Bears forced three turnovers and caused numerous deflections early on. Unfortunately, offensive results weren't following, as the Rocky women shot just 4-13 from the field as the first quarter ended with a 13-12 Carroll lead.

The defense continued to be the main point of attention in the second quarter, as each team held their opponent to under 27% from the field and forced seven turnovers a piece. Rocky opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to jump out their biggest lead of the day at six, but Carroll closed the half on an 11-3 run to grab a two-point halftime lead.

While the Battlin' Bears found their offensive rhythm in the third quarter, five turnovers were devastating, with the Fighting Saints scoring eight points off of Rocky's turnovers and shot 66% from the field to extend a double-digit lead going into the fourth quarter.

Fourth-quarter offensive woes were the final deciding factor for the Battlin' Bears, as the Fighting Saints finished the game on a 14-2 run as the Rocky women fell in the Frontier Conference semifinals.

Gracee Lekvold was the leading scorer for the Battlin' Bears with 15 while adding four rebounds. Iliana Moran scored 14 and dished four assists, and Brenna Linse finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Madeline Heggem added five points and six rebounds off the bench.

Jamie Pickens was the game's leading scorer, scoring 30 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for Carroll. Kyndall Keller added 20 points in the winning effort.

This season marked the third consecutive season the Battlin' Bears have competed in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference Tournament. The Rocky women conclude their tournament run with an overall season record of 16-13.
