Rocky Men’s Soccer Earns Rimrock Rivalry Sweep Over MSU Billings

BILLINGS, Mont.- A late goal from junior Nolan Finch secured a Rimrock Rivalry sweep for the Battlin' Bears, concluding the non-conference schedule with a 3-2 victory over MSU Billings.

How it Happened

Rocky entered the score column twice in the first 30 minutes of gameplay. In the 20th minute, Igor Soares sneaked a shot on the ground underneath the goalkeeper to give Rocky a 1-0 lead. Just seven minutes later, the Battlin' Bears took advantage of a bad pass in Yellowjacket territory, leading to Angel Mange finding the foot of Espoir Mayele, who rocketed a shot to the left side of the goal and in.

The Yellowjackets earned a penalty kick opportunity that they connected on to cut their deficit to 2-1 going into the halftime break. Rocky controlled the game on the pitch and in the stat sheet, outshooting the Yellowjackets 9-2, keeping both of MSUB's shots off of goal, and having three corner kick opportunities compared to none for the Yellowjackets.

MSU Billings would even the score in the 76th minute, following a free kick from the corner found the head of George Jones to tie the match at 2-2.

The Battlin' Bears would have their answer following a takeaway from Lorenzo Klamler. He would take the errant Yellowjacket pass into open space before threading the needle to teammate Nolan Finch, who successfully took on the goalkeeper one-on-one for the game-winning goal.

The Battlin' Bears outshot MSU Billings 17-6 in the match, led by four shot attempts from Igor Soares and Angel Mange. Soares put three of his shots on goal, and Espoir Mayele put both of his shots on goal in the win.

Stefan Schenk and Anton Wilms split time in goal in the victory, both of whom gave up a goal but had an overall quiet night in goal thanks to solid play from the Rocky defense.
