Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brandon Stinson | Sports Information & Media Coordinator

#19 Rocky Men’s Basketball’s Winning Streak Halted by the Fighting Saints in Helena

HELENA, Mont.- An uncharacteristic night defensively for the Battlin' Bears saw them give up a season-high 96 points to drop their first conference matchup of the season.

Thursday's loss is the first defeat to an NAIA program since the second game of the season on November 2nd against No. 6 Arizona Christian.

A hot shooting first half coupled with 32 points off of 21 Battlin' Bear turnovers allowed the Fighting Saints to control the game throughout.

How it Happened

Despite the Battlin' Bears shooting 55% from the field in the first half, the Fighting Saints put together their best stretch of basketball so far this season. Carroll College hit nine three-pointers over the first twenty minutes of play, shooting 62% overall from the field, taking a 17-point advantage into halftime.

While Rocky put together runs throughout the second half, they were never able to cut their deficit to single digits. A 12-4 run inside of eight minutes to go extended the Fighting Saints' lead to 21 points, the largest of the night and one that sealed Rocky's third loss of the season.

Notable Statistics

Omari Nesbit represented a bright spot on a night to forget for the Rocky men, scoring 24 points to lead the Battlin' Bears. Carter McCoy added 16 points and six rebounds, while Jesse Owens and Jaylon Lee each had 12 a piece.

Isaiah Crane was a sparkplug for Carroll College, totaling 24 points on nine-of-13 shooting from the field. Isaac Round added 21 points on five made three-pointers.
