Last Time Out

The Rocky women leaned on strong second halves to win two road games this past weekend against the #5 (now #23) University of Providence and MSU-Northern.

In Thursday's game against Providence, the Battlin' Bears held the preseason favorite Argos to just two points over the final six minutes, as a 12-2 run over that time frame secured a road win over the University of Providence. Sydney Dethman was the game's leading scorer, finishing with 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds, including ten points in the third quarter to lead the Battlin' Bears.

In Saturday's victory over MSU-Northern, the defense again shined for the Rocky women, holding the Skylights to just 44 points on their home court. Rebounding was a huge advantage for the Battlin' Bears in Saturday's victory, grabbing 48 rebounds for an eyepopping rebounding margin of 21 over the Skylights. Sydney Dethman led all players in scoring again with 18 points, while Gracee Lekvold and Iliana Moran also finished in double-figures.

Game Notes

On the Road
The Battlin' Bears will wrap up their road trip with a top-25 opponent in Carroll College on Thursday before returning home to take on Montana Western on Saturday afternoon. The Rocky women are a perfect 10-0 in road and neutral site games this season and re-entered the top 25 in the first NAIA Coaches Poll of 2025, bumping up to #20 after a preseason ranking of #21.

Player(s) of the Week
Sydney Dethman and Isabelle Heggem paired to sweep the Frontier Conference Player of the Week awards this past week. Dethman earned offensive honors after averaging 19.0 points per game on solid efficiency. At the same time, Heggem boasted defensive honors for averaging 8.5 rebounds, along with a steal and a block per game in Rocky's two road victories last week.

Take Care of the Ball
The Battlin' Bears have controlled the turnover ratio in their first three conference games, turning the ball over just 8.3 times per game while forcing nearly 11 turnovers per game. Over their past seven games, the Rocky women are forcing an average of 14.1 turnovers per game.

Scouting the Fighting Saints
No. 22-ranked Carroll College has faced a demanding schedule this season, taking on seven different top-25 opponents. They boast a 10-6 record going into Thursday's matchup. The Saints, who advanced to the NAIA Semifinals a season ago, returned a strong group of returners led by Billings West graduate Willa Albrecht. Albrecht is averaging 14.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season. Guards Kyndall Keller and Addi Ekstrom are scoring in double figures.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Montana Western has begun their conference schedule 1-2, with an overall record of 6-9 this season. The Bulldogs have proven to be versatile, with any player on the roster able to take over on any given night. While no individual player averages more than ten points per game, seven different Bulldogs average five or more points per game. The defense has been the calling card for Montana Western this season, holding opponents to 66.7 points per game and forcing a staggering 21 turnovers per game.
