PREVIEW: #20 Rocky Women’s Basketball Turns Focus to #23 Argos at Home Before Traveling to (RV) Orediggers Saturday

BILLINGS, Mont.- After a 4-1 start to conference play, the Battlin' Bear women begin the second rotation of the Frontier Conference schedule at home against #23 Providence before taking on (RV) Montana Tech in Butte.

Last Time Out

After dropping their first conference game of the season to #22 Carroll College, the Battlin' Bears rebounded for a decisive 81-68 victory over Montana Western at home on Saturday. 

In a game that featured 19 lead changes and 13 ties, the Battlin' Bears poured in 27 points in the fourth quarter to break away from the Bulldogs late. Iliana Moran led the charge down the stretch, scoring 12 of her 16 points in the final quarter, shooting three-of-three from the field and six-of-seven from the free throw line to help secure the victory. Freshman Paige Wasson also impressed, pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds and 19 points. Five Battlin' Bears scored in double figures, with 21 points from Sydney Dethman and 10 from Gracee Lekvold and Brenna Linse

Lockdown
Rocky's defense has been the best in the conference so far during the Frontier schedule, allowing just 53.8 points per game on 34.7% shooting from the field, both the top marks in the Frontier through five games.  The Battlin' Bears also rank second in blocks per game, tallying 3.4 a game, led by 1.2 blocks per game from freshman Isabelle Heggem

Freshman Phenom
Paige Wasson has put together a strong start to the conference schedule statistically, as the five-foot-11-inch guard leads the conference in rebounding through five conference games, averaging 8.6 boards a game, along with 1.2 steals (tied-11th), 10.8 points per game (13th), and shooting 36.7% from three-point range (5th). 

Scouting the Argos
The NAIA runner-ups from a season ago are off to a surprising 1-4 start in conference play, grabbing their first conference victory over MSU-Northern last Thursday evening, 58-52. The Argos return a strong roster that maintains a top-25 rating in the coaches poll at #23, led by sophomore post player Keanna Salave'a, averaging 17.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. 

Scouting the Orediggers
Montana Tech has won three of their past four games since falling to the Battlin' Bears in their conference opener, including wins over top-25 opponents University of Providence and Carroll College. The Orediggers are averaging 10.6 offensive rebounds per game and lead the Frontier Conference, averaging 38.6 rebounds per game with a top rebounding margin of 5.0 in conference play. Transfer forward Hadley Humphreys is the leading scorer for Montana Tech, averaging 11.8 points per game through five conference games so far this season.
