Rocky Men’s and Women’s Golf Lead Battle at the Dance After Day One; Individuals Compete Well at the Briarwood Shootout

WINDSOR, Colo.- Jared Smith and Grace Metcalf lead the individual standings as Rocky leads their competition after the first day at Raindance National, with individual Battlin' Bears playing well at Briarwood in Billings. 

Rocky Men End Strong to Take the Lead

The Rocky men shot the best round of the field so far in their second round of the day to snag a lead entering the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Jared Smith ends the first day as the leader, shooting a consistent one-under-par 143 (72, 71). Kristjan Burkelca came storming back in the second round on Monday, firing three under par 69, the best round of the field, to tie for second overall with an overall score of even-par 144 (75, 69). 

Aidan McDonagh followed in 22nd place after day one, shooting 11-over-par 155 (76, 79), while Sam Norman followed in 27th place after shooting 14-over-par 158 to round out the Battlin' Bear scorers. 

Also competing for the Rocky men was Nathan Piers, ending the day in 29th place with a score of 15-over-par 159 (79, 80), and Adam Hyde-Lay, sitting in 44th place with a total score of 23-over-par 167 (84, 83). 

Rocky's men finished the first day with a total score of 24-over-par 600 (304, 296), holding a slim three-stroke lead over No. 7-ranked OUAZ.  

Metcalf Dominates; Leads Five Battlin' Bear Scorers in the Top-Ten

Grace Metcalf continued to impress, ending the day five strokes ahead of the rest of the competition, shooting two-over-par 74 to pace the competition. Following Metcalf were four teammates inside the top ten overall. Kadence Fischer tied for fourth overall, shooting nine-under-par 81; Kirsten Smith came in seventh place with a score of 12-over-par 84; and Alivia Webinger and Tyla Potgieter tied for eighth place, shooting 13-over-par 85. Rounding out Rocky's competitors was Carlee Verdugo, tied for 11th with a score of 15-over-par 87. 

The 23rd-ranked Battlin' Bears finished the day with an 11-stroke lead over (RV) Doane University.   

Voegele Tied For Eighth to Lead Battlin' Bears at Briarwood

A second group of Battlin' Bears stayed local to compete in the Briarwood Shootout, playing 18 holes in the cold Billings weather on Monday. 

On the women's side, Megan Voegele led the charge, tying for eighth overall with a score of 11th place with a score of 11-over-par 83. AnaJulia Silva tied for 17th place with a score of 16-over-par 88, and Catalina Garcia tied for 25th place with a score of 18-over-par 90. 

For the Rocky men, Tye Boone was the leading scorer, tying for 15th overall with a score of five-over-par 77. The Battlin' Bears followed in a tight group, with Lydone Patascher sitting in 26th (eight-over-par 80), Makstr McIntyre in 27th (10-over-par 82), Dallen Atnip and Alexander Brester tied for 28th (11-over-par 83), and Kellen Meyer tied for 30th (14-over-par 86). 

As a team, the Rocky Men's "B" team finished with a team score of 34-over-par 322 to place sixth overall. 

Up Next

Rocky's Golf teams, both in Colorado and in Billings, will play a final 18 holes to conclude their week on Tuesday.
