Rocky Men’s Golf Season Concludes at the NAIA National Championship; Finish Tied for 20th

SILVIS, Ill.- The Rocky Mountain College men's golf season concluded Wednesday at TPC Deere Run, as the Battlin' Bears finished the second round of the NAIA National Championship tied for 20th place, missing the cut line by just five strokes.

After carding a team total of 307 (+27) in the second round, Rocky ended the tournament with a 36-hole score of 602 (+42).

Senior Aidan McDonagh (Melbourne, Australia) rounded out his Battlin' Bear career as the top scorer, finishing eight-over-par 148 (69, 79) following a strong first round, tying for 46th overall. McDonagh had a strong showing on his first ten holes of the day, totaling eight pars and a birdie, and missed the individual cut line by one stroke.  

Three Battlin' Bears shot six-over-par 76 in Wednesday's second round, including freshmen Sam Norman, Alexander Brester, and redshirt junior Kristjan Burkelca

Freshman Sam Norman (Laurel, Montana) finished with a total score of ten-over-par 150 (74, 76). Norman avoided big mistakes in a consistent round on Wednesday, finishing the day with no holes of double bogey or worse, along with 11 pars—his total of 24 pars through two rounds tied for the 14th most by any player.  

Kristjan Burkelca (Domzale, Slovenia) ended his showing with a pair of six-over-par rounds, totaling 12-over-par 152 (76, 76). An up-and-down round saw the redshirt junior fire a trio of birdies and seven pars on Wednesday to tie for 79th overall individually. 

Freshman Alexander Brester (Billings, Montana) was a big mover in the standings on Wednesday, moving up 22 places to finish tied for 103rd overall with a total score of 15-over-par 155. His highlight of the week came on hole two on Wednesday, totaling an eagle on a 551-yard par 5. The freshman was one of just ten players through two rounds to shoot an eagle in the NAIA National Championship. 

Nathan Piers (Edmonton, Alberta) rounded out Rocky's competitors with a total score of 19-over-par 159 (76, 83). 

Team highlights included a total of 23 birdies, tied for sixth-most, and 41 bogeys, tied for fifth-least of the field. 

The Battlin' Bears wrap up another decorated season under Frontier Conference Coach of the Year Nathan Bailey, winning another Frontier Conference title and totaling five tournament victories.
