Rocky Men’s and Women’s Golf Win the Battle at the Dance; Smith and Fischer Earn Individual Honors

WINDSOR, Colo.- Rocky Golf continued its dominant fall season, winning The Battle at the Dance in Colorado, thanks to individual victories from Jared Smith and Kadence Fischer

Rocky's men notably earned a statement victory, defeating No. 7-ranked OUAZ by eight strokes. 

Smith Leads Rocky Men To Victory

Jared Smith was a head above his competition in Colorado, earning a six-stroke victory after finishing with a total score of five-under-par 211 (72, 71, 68). Smith, after taking a lead into the final day, torched the field on the final day, shooting four-under-par 68, totaling eight birdies on the final day. 

Kristjan Burkelca followed in second overall, shooting one-over-par 217 (75, 69, 73). Burkelca shot the best round of the field in the second round, shooting three-under-par 69. Aidan McDonagh (76, 79, 74) and Sam Norman (81, 77, 71) tied for 16th overall to round out Rocky's scorers, finishing 13-over-par 229. 

Nathan Piers competed individually, tying for 23rd overall with a score of 17-over-par 233 (79, 80, 74). Adam Hyde-Lay finished out the Battlin' Bear competitors, tying for 38th overall with a score of 26-over-par 242 (84, 83, 75). 

Jared Smith finished the tournament with the most birdies of the field with 17, while Aidan McDonagh and Kristjan Burkelca followed in second with 13. Adam Hyde-Lay totaled the third-most pars with 32, while Nathan Piers tallied an Eagle in the second round. 

The Battlin' Bears finished with a team score of 22-over-par 886 (304, 296, 286) to earn the team victory. They defeated the No. 7-ranked OUAZ by eight strokes, as well as other NAIA competitors, Hastings College, Mount Marty, Midland University, Briar Cliff, and Oklahoma Panhandle. 

Fischer's Strong Finish Leads Four Top-Ten Finishes For Rocky Women

Kadence Fischer tallied the lone round under par of the field to storm ahead and take the individual victory, finishing eight-over-par 152 (81, 71). Her final round included four birdies and ten pars. Grace Metcalf followed in second place, finishing the tournament nine-over-par 153 (74, 79). Also finishing in the top ten were Tyla Potgieter in sixth with a total score of 15-over-par 159 (85, 74) and Kirsten Smith in eighth with a total score of 21-over-par 165 (84, 81) to round out the Battlin' Bear scorers. 

Also competing for the Battlin' Bears was Alivia Webinger, who finished in 11th with a score of 24-over-par 168 (85, 83), and Carlee Verdugo, competing as an individual, who finished 16th overall with a score of 36-over-par 180 (87, 93).  

Fischer, Potgieter, Metcalf, and Verdugo all tied for the most birdies of the field, totaling six overall, while Smith was one of only four competitors to total an Eagle, doing so in Tuesday's final round. 

Rocky's women finished with a team victory, shooting 53-over-par 629 (324, 305). They earned a 12-stroke victory over Doane University and also defeated NAIA competitors Mount Marty, Hastings, and Briar Cliff. 

Three Battlin' Bears Earn Top-20 Finishes at the Briarwood Shootout

Competing in the chilly conditions at Briarwood in Billings, Rocky showed strong individual showings from the youth of their roster. 

On the women's side, Megan Voegele finished 18th overall, shooting 28-over-par 172 (83, 89). Following Voegele was Catalina Garcia, tied for 20th with a score of 30-over-par 174 (90, 84), and AnaJulia Silva finished 25th with a score of 32-over-par 176 (88, 88).

 Tye Boone led the Battlin' Bear men, shooting eight-over-par 152 (77, 75) to place 16th overall. Makstr McIntyre followed in 22nd, shooting 14-over-par 158 (82, 76), while Alexander Brester followed tied for 23rd place with a score of 16-over-par 160 (83, 77). 

Dallen Atnip (83, 79) and Lydon Patascher (80, 82) tied for 29th overall with a score of 18-over-par 162, while Kellen Meyer rounded out the Battlin' Bear competitors, placing 33rd with a score of 25-over-par 169 (86, 83). 

The Rocky men earned a team score of 53-over-par 629 (322, 207) to place sixth overall.
