Fischer and McDonagh Tied for Individual Lead as Rocky Golf Battle to Slim Leads After Day One of the Yellowjacket Invitational

BILLINGS, Mont.- Kadence Fischer and Aidan McDonagh finished their first 18 holes tied for the lead to lead the Battlin' Bears on day one at Lake Hills Golf Course. 

Fischer and Metcalf in the Top Three to Lead Rocky Women

Kadence Fischer tied for the lead following the first day, shooting four-over-par 76. Fischer sits tied with MSUB's Ella Tannenberger. Grace Metcalf followed in a four-way tie for third place, shooting five-over-par 77. Kirsten Smith and Tyla Potgieter also followed just a stroke behind, tying for seventh with scores of six-over-par 78 to round out Rocky's scorers. 

Alivia Webinger (1o-over-par 82) and Carlee Verdugo (11-over-par 83) rounded out Rocky's competitors, tying for 19th and 24th, respectively. 

The Battlin' Bear women lead the field with a team score of 21-over-par 309, holding a slim five-stroke lead over Rimrock Rival and host MSU Billings, who finished the first day with a score of 26-over-par 314. 

McDonagh's Strong Finish Caps Day One Lead For Rocky Men

Aidan McDonagh finished his day with a pair of birdies to tie for the lead, scoring one-under-par 71. The individual field remains tight, as six different players finished the afternoon one-under-par. Adam Hyde-Lay followed, tied for 11th with a total score of one-over-par 73. Kristjan Burkelca and Sam Norman rounded out the scorers tied for three-over-par 75. 

Jared Smith finished the day five-over-par 77, tied for 28th overall. Alexander Brester, competing individually, finished the day three-over-par 75 to tie for 18th overall. 

Rocky's men hold a one-stroke lead, finishing with a team score of six-over-par 294. The Battlin' Bears lead over NCAA DII opponent University of Mary and have a three-stroke lead over Central Wyoming. The top six team scores are separated by just five strokes following the first 18 holes.

Rocky's Golf teams will play a final 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning with a 9 am shotgun start at Lake Hills Golf Course.
