Rocky Men’s and Women’s Golf Wins Yellowjacket Invitational

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky Golf continued its strong start to the 2025-26 season, winning its fourth tournament in as many outings to begin the year. 

Rocky Women Net All Four Scorers in the Top 10

Kirsten Smith (78, 76) and Grace Metcalf (77, 77) tied for third overall to lead Rocky, shooting ten over par 154. Metcalf finished the tournament with the best scoring on par 5s, shooting even-par on the tournament, as well as the second most birdies with five. Smith tied for the third-best par-3 scoring average at even-par. 

Kadence Fischer finished seventh overall, totaling a score of 13-over-par 157 (76, 81), while Tyla Potgieter tied for tenth overall with a score of 17-over-par 161 (78, 83) to round out the Battlin' Bear scorers. Concluding the Battlin' Bear competitors were Alivia Webinger, competing as an individual, tying for 18th overall with a score of 21-over-par 165 (82, 83), and Carlee Verdugo, who tied for 34th overall with a score of 27-over-par 171 (83, 88).

The Battlin' Bear women finished with a five-stroke victory over host MSU Billings, totaling a team score of 50-over-par 626 (309, 317). 

Rocky Men Extend Lead Late to Secure Victory

Aidan McDonagh led the Battlin' Bear men at Lake Hills Golf Course, finishing one-under-par 143 (71, 72) to tie for first overall. The senior was consistent, totaling 27 pars through 36 holes, the second-most of anyone in the field. Sam Norman used a strong final day to jump into a tie for seventh place with a total score of one-over-par 145 (75, 70). Norman's two-under-par 70 on Tuesday was tied for the best round of the tournament. 

Adam Hyde-Lay (73, 74) and Kristjan Burkelca (75, 72) rounded out the Battlin' Bear scorers, tying for ninth with a total score of three-over-par 147. 

Jared Smith (77, 73) and Alexander Brester (75, 75) concluded the Rocky competitors, tying for 18th overall with a score of six-over-par 150. Brester competed as an individual. 

After entering Tuesday with the top six teams separated by just five strokes, Rocky broke away on Tuesday, earning a seven-stroke victory with a team score of five-over-par 581 (294, 287) to best runner-up the University of Mary.

Rocky's Golf teams will be on the road next week, competing in the Battle at the Dance in Colorado beginning Monday, October 13th.
