Fischer’s Sixth Place Finish Paces Battlin’ Bears at the Firestorm Invite

BUCKEYE, Ariz.- Kadence Fischer turned in one of the top performances of the field in the final round as the Rocky women placed fifth overall, with the men finishing seventh.

Kadence Fischer tied for the second-best round of anyone in the field on the final day, shooting one-under-par 71 to finish six-over-par 222 (74, 77, 71). Fischer's consistency powered her through, totaling the fifth most par rounds of the field with 38. Grace Metcalf shook off a slow start to finish 16-over-par 232 (82, 77, 73), tying for 21st overall. Tyla Potigeter followed tied for 26th place with a score of 20-over-par 236 (81, 82, 73), while Alivia Webinger (80, 79, 79)  and Kirsten Smith (80, 84, 74) rounded out the Rocky competitors with a total score of 22-over-par 238. 

Metcalf and Fischer tied for the third best scoring average on par 3s, shooting even-par on the tournament. Alivia Webinger shot one-under-par on par 5s, tied for the eighth best average. 

The 13th-ranked Battlin' Bears finished with a team score of 57-over-par 921 (315, 315, 291), totaling the best team round of the tournament on day three. No. 14-ranked Embry-Riddle earned the team victory with a team score of 20-over-par 884. 

Smith Ends Even-Par in Rocky Men's Finish

Jared Smith's strong finish helped him jump seven spots in the individual standings, finishing with a total score of even-par 216 (73, 73, 70), tying for 12th overall. Freshman Sam Norman followed, tied for 30th overall with a total score of six-over-par 222 (75, 74, 73). Adam Hyde-Lay (76, 73, 76) and Aidan McDonagh (71, 81, 73) tied for 41st overall with total scores of nine-over-par 225, while Kristjan Burkelca rounded out the Battlin' Bear competitors with a total score of 11-over-par 227 (72, 77, 78). 

Aidan McDonagh tied for the top scoring average on par 3s, totaling a score of two-under-par overall; Jared Smith's average score of even-par on par 4s tied for fifth best of the field, and Smith's 44 total pars during the tournament ranked second-best. 

The 16th-ranked Rocky men finished seventh overall with a team score of 16-over-par 880 (291, 297, 292). The no.18-ranked Texas Wesleyan finished as the team champions with a total score of nine-under-par 855.

The Battlin' Bears conclude their fall schedule and will look ahead to their spring championship schedule, which will begin on March 3rd, as they host the RMC Intercollegiate at Lake Las Vegas.
