Rocky Men’s Basketball Unable to Secure Season Sweep of Bulldogs; Enter Frontier Conference Tournament as the Fifth Seed

DILLON, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears will enter the Frontier Conference Tournament as the fifth seed after dropping their second straight matchup on the road.

The Battlin' Bears will face Montana Western in the first round of the Frontier Conference Tournament on Sunday, March 2nd. The Bears won the season's first two matches against the Bulldogs before losing on the road on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

The Battlin' Bears took the first swing of the contest, as Carter McCoy dropped in a layup after a pair of offensive rebounds to give the Battlin' Bears a 10-7 lead ahead of the first media timeout. The Bulldogs would respond with a 10-2 run, taking advantage of Battlin' Bear turnovers to grab their first lead. Jalyn Stepney would continue the run for the Montana Western, scoring seven points in the final five minutes to extend an eight-point lead. Carter McCoy would score a pair of layups before the half to reduce Rocky's deficit to four points entering halftime.

Rocky's offense was cold coming out of the halftime break, allowing Montana Western to break away for a 13-3 run to grab a double-digit advantage. While Rocky would battle within six points, Montana Western would hit four of their final five shots while sinking all five free throw attempts in the final five minutes of play to hand Rocky their tenth loss of the season.

Notable Statistics

Carter McCoy would supply a season-high 18 points in the defeat. Mekhi Jourdan would add 14 points off the bench, tying his season-high he set on Thursday evening against Carroll, while also tallying three steals. Jaylon Lee would also finish in double-figures, totaling 10 points and two blocks.

The Battlin' Bears struggled from deep in the loss, shooting just 26.3% from three-point range.
