MGOLF Rain Delay

Rain and Lightning Ends Rocky's Round One Prematurely; NAIA Championships Limited to 54-Hole Tournament

5/20/2025 7:09:00 PM

SILVIS, ILL.- Due to inclement weather, the Battlin' Bears were stopped shortly after teeing off on Tuesday. They will pick up play on Wednesday as the tournament has been reduced to a 54-hole championship.

None of the Battlin' Bear competitors made it to the halfway point on the first day before lightning halted play. Jared Smith leads the charge, ending the day one-under-par after eight holes. Aidan McDonagh followed at even-par through seven holes, Nathan Piers and Kristjan Burkelca sit at two-over-par after eight and six holes, respectively, while Jake Johnson rounds out Rocky at three-over-par after six holes.

After briefly resuming after over an hour delay, the first day of competition at the NAIA Men's Golf Championship was called off to resume again on Wednesday.

None of the 78 players who began their round this morning could complete the opening 18 holes. Another 78 players never reached the first tee today and wait to begin their championship tomorrow.

Following tomorrow's completion of the first round and Thursday's second round, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and ties, and the top six individuals not on one of those teams. The final round is slated for 8 a.m. CT on Friday, May 23.
