Rocky Men’s Cross Country Picked Second, Women Fourth in Frontier Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

8/19/2025 11:06:00 AM

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Frontier Conference announced its Cross Country Preseason Coaches Poll, which featured the Rocky Men in second and the women in fourth.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams in the preseason poll.  First place is worth 10 points, second place is worth nine (9) points, third place is worth eight points (8), and down the list to last place with one point.

The Battlin' Bear men were picked second overall, totaling 84 total points and three first-place votes. The four-time defending Conference Champion Carroll College was picked as the favorites for the 2025 season, earning 98 total points and the other eight first-place votes. The Battlin' Bears fell in the 2024 Frontier Conference Championship in Billings by just a single point and eventually earned an At-Large birth into the NAIA National Championship race.

Three total teams from the new-look Frontier Conference competed in the NAIA Men's National Championship race a year ago, including Carroll College, who placed 12th, Rocky, who took 24th, and Bellevue University, who placed 32nd. The Bruins were picked third in the Preseason Poll, totaling 79 points.

Montana Tech (70 points), Dakota State (64 points), Bismarck State (57 points), Dickinson State (54 points), Montana Western (32 points), MSU-Northern (30 points), Valley City State (20 points), and Providence (14 points) rounded out the poll.

The Rocky men have reason for excitement this season, as they return all five scorers from the Frontier Conference Championships last season and all seven competitors from the NAIA National Championship to their roster in 2025, under the guidance of returning Head Coach Mike McLean

The Battlin' Bear women were picked fourth in the Women's Preseason Coaches Poll, totaling 75 points. Defending Conference Champions Montana Tech were picked as the favorites, totaling 97 points and eight first-place votes. Carroll College followed in second with 89 total points and two first-place votes, and Dakota State rounded out the top three with the final first-place vote and 84 points.

Dickinson State (54 points), Bismarck State (54 points), Montana Western (45 points), Valley City State (43 points), Bellevue (28 points), MSU-Northern (20 points), and Providence (17 points) rounded out the Women's Preseason Poll.

The Rocky women return both of their all-conference and national qualifiers from a season ago in Kallyn Wilkins and Hannah Geisen, who will look to lead the 2025 Battlin' Bears. The 2024 squad spent three weeks of the season ranked in the NAIA Top 25.
