Rocky Women’s Soccer Tallies 2-0 Rimrock Rivalry Victory in Saturday’s Exhibition

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears earned an early advantage in this season's Rimrock Rivalry series with a 2-0 exhibition victory over the Yellowjackets on Saturday evening.

Despite the win not counting towards either school's overall record for the season, the Battlin' Bear win marks the first for women's soccer since 2019 and nets Rocky 30 points to open up the 2025-26 Rimrock Rivalry series.

How it Happened

Neither team could crack the score column early as both squads traded possessions. Sophomore Georgia Dean was the one to break the tie in the 33rd minute, taking a free kick from about 25 yards out that deflected off the Yellowjacket goalie and in to give the Battlin' Bears a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Emma Lensing would add an insurance goal in the second half, as teammate Mya Maack would send a deep pass down the middle of the field, leading Lensing for a breakaway goal that rattled off the inside of the post, giving the Battlin' Bears a 2-0 lead, which they would hold for the remainder of the match.

While there was just a slight disparity in shot attempts, with the Battlin' Bears holding a 14-12 advantage in the match, the Rocky defense put excellent pressure on the MSU Billings' attack, allowing just two shots on frame. Matea Vernon and Anna Cole shared time in goal in the exhibition matchup, both saving a shot apiece. The Battlin' Bear offense totaled seven shots on goal in the winning effort.

Emma Lensing led the charge offensively, tallying six total shots, with two of them on target to add to her second-half goal. Georgia Dean followed with four shot attempts, all of which were on goal.

Up Next

The Battlin' Bears will officially kick off their non-conference schedule next week, as they head to Arizona to take on Benedictine Mesa, Arizona Christian, and No. 17-ranked Embry-Riddle.
