9/10/2025 9:49:00 PM

BILLINGS, Mont.- With both matchups tied entering singles matches on Wednesday, the Battlin' Bears came through and closed out the Yellowjackets to secure a sweep in the Grob and Spalding Cups.

Wednesday's matches were played in a singles match format. In singles, each match features one player from each team. The player with the lower score on each hole wins that hole. If their scores are tied, the hole is halved.

With the women's side tied at 4-4 entering Wednesday, the Battlin' Bear women needed to secure 4.5 points to win the Cup. Grace Metcalf secured her matchup early with a 4 & 3 win, while Tyla Potgieter also won her matchup early with a 3 & 2 win. Catalina Garcia won the 17th hole to secure her matchup, Kadence Fischer earned a 1UP victory in her matchup, Kirsten Smith clinched a dramatic 1UP matchup victory with a challenging putt on hole 18.

Rocky earned five points on Wednesday to secure a 9-7 victory over MSUB, bringing home the Spalding Cup for the first time since 2022. Their victory also yielded the Battlin' Bears 30 points in the Rimrock Rivalry series.

The men's competition ended early due to lightning, but results were marked as final from where the athletes ended their day. Jared Smith and Tye Boone already secured their matchups, 4 & 3 and 5 & 3, respectively. Kristjan Burkelca ended his day 1UP, Nathan Piers finished 3UP, Adam Hyde-Lay finished 4UP, and Sam Norman ended 5UP, all earning victories in their matches.

The Battlin' Bear men finished with a final score of 11-9, earning their second consecutive Grob Cup.

The Rocky sweep over MSUB earned 30 points per win in the Rimrock Rivalry series and an additional 15 points for the Battlin' Bears. Rocky has stormed to a 105-45 lead in the series this season thanks to wins this week, as well as Women's Soccer's 2-0 victory on August 23rd.
