Rocky Men’s and Women’s Golf Leads Dickinson State Invite After Day One

DICKINSON, N.D.- Kristjan Burkelca and Grace Metcalf lead their respective fields individually as both Battlin' Bear golf teams lead after the first day of the Dickinson State Invitational. 

The men played 36 holes on Monday, with the women playing 18. Both groups will play a final 18 holes on Tuesday morning. 

On the men's side, Kristjan Burkelca led the charge, shooting the best round of the field in his second round to finish with a total of ten-under-par 134 (69, 65). Jared Smith sits third overall with a total score of six-under-par 138 (69, 69) after a pair of rounds scoring three-under-par. 

Sam Norman (74, 66) and Aidan McDonagh (70, 70) are tied in fifth after two rounds with total scores of four-under-par 140, and Tye Boone (71, 71) is tied for ninth overall. 

Rocky's men hold a commanding 14-stroke lead over second-place Bellevue University after two rounds, with a total score of 27-under-par 549 (279, 270), following a tremendous second round where they finished 18-under-par as a team. 

Grace Metcalf leads the field on the women's side, shooting two-under-par 70 for the top individual score on day one. Tyla Potgieter, Kirsten Smith, and Kadence Fischer all round out Rocky's scorers, tying for fifth place with scores of three-over-par 75. Alivia Webinger also ended day one in the top ten, tied for tenth with a score of six-over-par 78. 

The No. 23-ranked Rocky's women's team holds a five-stroke lead over Montana Tech, finishing the day with a team score of seven-over-par 295. 

Up Next

The Battlin' Bears will play a final 18 holes on Tuesday, looking to finish strong and preserve their lead in the final round.
