Rocky Volleyball Falls to MSU-Northern in Their Home Opener

BILLINGS, Mont. - Rocky Volleyball was defeated by MSU-Northern in four sets on Friday evening.

Senior Josie West compiled a season-high 13 kills and 17 digs in the losing effort to lead the Battlin' Bears.

How It Happened

The Battlin' Bears took an early advantage in the first set of Skylight errors, as Rocky forced eight attack errors in the first set. Josie West totaled five early kills as Rocky leaped to a one-set lead at home.

The second set was back-and-forth throughout, as Feline Mulder spiked a kill to tie the set at 23-23. Rocky errors hindered their opportunity late in the second set, as a service error and an attack error allowed the Skylights to knot the match up at 1-1.

MSU-Northern's newfound momentum sent the Skylights soaring through the third set, spiking a .345 hitting percentage to cruise to a 25-12 set victory.

The fourth set was an exciting one, featuring long rallies and strong effort from both sides, as both teams combined for over 100 attack attempts. Josie West and Kaitlyn Wood combined for a block to bring the Battlin' Bears within one point mid-way through the set, 17-16, but the Skylights would take advantage of the ensuing service error to finish the set on an 8-4 run to win the match in four sets.

Josie West led the way with a game-high 13 kills on a .286 hitting percentage, and Lauren Rodacker totaled a career-high 20 digs from her libero position.

The Skylights were led by 12 kills from both Lexi Jones and Macee Selman, while Addison Fallsdown compiled 27 assists.

MSU-Northern outhit the Battlin' Bears .162 to .090 overall in the contest.
