Rocky Football Falls in Home Opener to (RV) College of Idaho 37-20

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky dropped a competitive home opener on Saturday afternoon, 37-20, to (RV) College of Idaho.

The Battlin' Bears accrued 336 yards through the air on the afternoon, but were outscored 21-6 in the fourth quarter as the Yotes picked up the win on Herb Klindt Field.

How it Happened

In his first action in almost two years exactly, redshirt sophomore Trent Nobach led the Battlin' Bears down the field on their opening drive, highlighted by a 44-yard pass to Darius Haskin to set the Battlin' Bears up inside the five-yard line. Three plays later, Nobach found Tuff Adams for a seven-yard touchdown to give the Battlin' Bears a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

The Rocky defense forced back-to-back three-and-outs on College of Idaho's first two offensive possessions, as the Battlin' Bears entered the second quarter up 7-0.

The Yotes would put together a 13-play, 91-yard drive to open the second quarter, capped off by a six-yard passing touchdown from quarterback Caden Young to Jackson Ames. Rocky would block the point after attempt, holding the lead 7-6 with 10:19 remaining in the first half.

Both offenses would be quiet for most of the second quarter. Still, College of Idaho would swipe the lead before the end of the half, as Travis Marieiro would take an inside pitch to rush in for four yards and the touchdown, giving College of Idaho a 13-7 lead going into the half.

Neither team could find momentum to open the second half, trading punts. The Yotes would add onto their lead with a 31-yard field goal from Josh Horn, pushing the lead to 16-7. The Battlin' Bears would respond, as Trent Nobach found Darius Haskin, who made multiple Yotes miss and dashed down the field for 75 yards and a touchdown, cutting the deficit to two points following the extra point from Austin Drake

The College of Idaho would control the time of possession in the fourth quarter with the lead, limiting Rocky's opportunity to mount a comeback. Additionally, the Yotes capitalized on three long possessions with touchdowns to grow their lead late in the fourth quarter. Trent Nobach connected with Darius Haskin for another big play, a 53-yard touchdown with 5:55 remaining in the game. Unfortunately, a late turnover from the Battlin' Bears and a one-yard touchdown rush from College of Idaho in the final two minutes spoiled the Rocky home opener with a final score of 36-20.
