Rocky Volleyball’s Comeback Effort Falls Short to Carroll College in Four Sets

BILLINGS, Mont. - Rocky Volleyball found late momentum Saturday, but was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling in four sets to Carroll College at home.

How it Happened

The opening set featured back-and-forth action before Carroll took a late 20-18 lead to force a Battlin' Bear timeout. Rocky responded well out of the break, as Sydney Nance's kill tied the set at 21-21. However, the Fighting Saints reeled off three straight points and capped the frame with a kill to secure a 25-22 set win and an early 1-0 lead.

Carroll carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to an early 9-4 advantage. The Saints mounted an efficient offensive attack, hitting .263 as a team with only five attack errors to secure a wire-to-wire second-set victory.

Rocky found new life in the third set, rallying behind an early 5-0 run that featured a pair of kills from Amelia Kisiel and Sadie Meier to build a 10-4 lead. Momentum stayed firmly in Rocky's favor as the lead stretched to as many as 10 points before the Battlin' Bears closed out a 25-20 set win to keep the match alive.

The fourth set delivered must-see action with lengthy rallies and multiple momentum swings for both sides. Carroll took the first late advantage at 20-17, forcing a Rocky timeout. After a Saints kill pushed the score to match point at 24-21, Rocky came alive, rallying for five straight points to turn match point into a Rocky set point at 25-24. In an intense extra-points battle, Carroll ultimately found the spark it needed through a block and a kill from Lauren Heuiser, sealing the match with a 30-28 fourth-set victory.

Sadie Meier recorded her first double-double of the season, leading the team with 14 kills alongside 18 digs.
